Your driving record

Your Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)

All insurance companies offering auto insurance require an MVR prior to binding.  These reports are costly so most companies do not run these reports until you have agreed to move forward with the quote.  If you fail to mention any activity on your driving record, it will show up before you are able to bind the insurance and the rate will increase or the coverage will be declined.  Here are just a few items that change your rates:

For 3 years:

  • Speeding tickets less than 15 miles over the limit
  • Most moving violations
  • Failure to maintain insurance

For 5-7 years:

  • DUI
  • Driving while license suspended or revoked
  • Speeding tickets 15 miles or more over the speed limit
  • Driving without insurance
  • Felony convictions associated with a traffic accident or moving violation
